Systems Approach to Coaching Leaders The Coaching Relationship

Organizations frequently turn to a “coach” to assist them in improving employee performance. And, rightly so, for research has indicated that 70% of those coached by managers indicate positive behavioral changes. However, all too often change achieved in coaching only directly benefits the recipient.

The Systems Approach to Coaching Leaders (SACL) model provides an overall plan to use in planning a coaching program for leadership and managerial development. SACL approaches the design of a coaching program by assessing the culture and values of the organization and the coaching skills of in-house managers and mentors. The training program assists in-house personnel in learning the coaching skills that will aid in their leadership and mentorship with other employees. With the system approach the benefits of coaching can continue long after the external consultant has left.
